The Large Cistern

The Aljibe Grande is an old water cistern located in the center of Isla de Lobos. Built long ago, its main function was to collect and store rainwater to supply the island's inhabitants and activities. This underground reservoir reflects the ingenuity of its builders in adapting to the islet's arid conditions. Although no longer in use, the Aljibe Grande stands as a testament to the island's historical heritage. While the structure itself isn't visually striking, its historical value is undeniable, as it demonstrates how the first inhabitants adapted to their environment. The walk to the cistern offers an excellent opportunity to explore the island's volcanic landscape and enjoy the native flora in its natural setting.
