Lobos Island is home to important archaeological sites that attest to the Roman presence in the Canary Islands. Discovered since 2012, these sites include a purple dye workshop, where marine mollusks were processed to extract the coveted purple dye, used in ancient Rome as a status symbol. Dwelling structures, pottery, tools, and fishing remains have also been found, suggesting that the island was an important production and trade center on Roman maritime routes.
These discoveries offer valuable insights into daily life and industrial activities of the period, confirming the significant role of Lobos Island in the history of the Roman Empire. Although the site is not open to the public, excavations continue and highlight the island's rich cultural and historical significance.
